Introduction to Astronomy
We are very excited to be offering an 8 week Introduction to Astronomy course every academic term, starting from the Spring Term of 2023, led by our wonderful Physics and Astronomy tutor, Cecilia Bondestam. The course will be taught over Zoom, is appropriate for KS2 children and the course size will be capped at 6 students.

My name is Cecilia, and I’m an Astrophysics student currently completing my integrated master’s year at the University of Edinburgh. My main area of interest is high redshift galaxies, which really just means I study galaxies that are incredibly far away and try to
figure out what their deal is.
However, what initially sparked my interest in space (at the age of six), was learning about the solar system and its history. I poured over space books aimed at kids, finding the vastness of space infinitely fascinating. And whenever I could I would bug my parents to listen to the new fun planet trivia I’d learned that week. It is some of this same thirst for knowledge that I hope to encourage with the astronomy course I’m running.
There won’t be any rigorous maths involved. Instead, it is an exploration of space through interactive exercises and fun facts, while also never straying from a scientific focus. Ultimately, my goal as a tutor is that everyone comes away from the course with more knowledge of space than they had before, and hopefully also being more curious about the universe they inhabit.
