MATHS & ENGLISH TUITION MORNINGS

The Maths & English tuition on our courses aims to fill in curriculum gaps for students which they may have found tricky at school and give those sitting imminent exams key tips and techniques to help them succeed.

Typical content covered includes:

  • Mental maths

  • Maths reasoning and problem solving skills

  • English comprehension technique

  • Creative writing and structuring a story

  • Persuasive writing

  • Building vocabulary and language sophistication

  • Past paper and exam question practice

We will check in with you prior to the course so we can tailor the content to meet the trickier areas of both curricula for your child. Students will also have the opportunity to sit timed mock papers where relevant.

For our younger children, who may be in pre-Reception to Year 1, our lessons are play-based, interactive and paced suitably in shorter teaching periods according to students' concentration levels. The tutor will base their lessons on the EYFS teaching framework and make use of the surrounding allotment for supervised nature-inspired teaching also.

We vary the creative course schedule we run each holiday period and often work in collaboration with local artists and creatives . Below are a few examples of the workshops we have run in the recent past:

Cookery Workshop

We aim to create both popular favourites and novel dishes with the children; past workshops have involved making pasta and pizza from scratch, Chinese dumplings, shortbread and gingerbread houses, seasonal puds made from locally picked fruit and sushi. Children will be able to get hands on in creating their food which they can then take home with them for their dinner and to share with their families.

Arts & Crafts

We run a variety of arts and crafts workshops, often inspired by the current season. Previously we have run painting workshops (see Van Gogh- inspired sunflowers here), jesmonite and clay crafting, printing workshops, t shirt and tote bag making, sewing, keyring and mask making, to name a few. We will always ensure the task is accessible even for our youngest learners.

Woodwork Workshop

Led by experienced creative facilitator, Te'Azha, from Seed of Play eco woodwork initiative, this will be a fun and interactive workshop, giving children the opportunity to build something memorable to take home.

Students will see a demonstration of how to drill and use tools safely, before being assisted to create a mini project of choice. Past projects have ranged from fairy gardens to stationery holders to houses for cherished toys.

This workshop aims to empower children's practical understanding of building structures and basic joinery while giving a joyful insight into the world of upcycling.
